Airline overview

An Airbus freighter operator based in Istanbul

ULS Airlines Cargo (IATA codeGO, ICAO three-letter code:KZUGO, radio call sign Universal Cargo) is an all-cargo airline registered in Turkey. It received its air operator certificate from the Turkish civil aviation authority and began operating in 2004, is headquartered and based in Istanbul, and works mainly from Istanbul Ataturk Airport. The company belongs to the ULS (Universal Logistics Systems) group and is its dedicated air cargo carrier. It is a full member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and holds international safety and security certifications.

ULS has changed name twice. It was founded in 2004 as Baron Hava Kargo, renamed Kuzu Airlines Cargo in October of the same year and took its present name, ULS Airlines Cargo, in July 2009, growing on the back of the ULS group logistics network. Unlike a passenger airline it carries only cargo, and the whole fleet consists of converted Airbus A310 and A330 freighters. The network covers Europe, the Middle East and Asia, serving time-sensitive cargo, cross-border e-commerce and express shipments, mainly for logistics companies and forwarders.

Turkish air cargo is dominated by Turkish Cargo, and independent all-cargo carriers such as ULS fill a different role: they offer forwarders and logistics providers other routings and a tighter focus on time-critical service. ULS is small, but its reputation in the time-critical and e-commerce segment gives it a place in the Turkish cargo market and makes it one of the options a shipper checks for special capacity.

For Chinese shippers ULS matters in two ways. Its Istanbul-Hong Kong cargo route gives cargo between China and Europe a transit path through the Istanbul hub. Its focus on time-critical and e-commerce express freight suits cargo with tight deadlines. ULS has no published scheduled flights or office in mainland China, so mainland cargo normally connects through Hong Kong or a European hub, and space is confirmed shipment by shipment through a forwarder.

Company history timeline

2004Founded in Turkey as Baron Hava Kargo, granted its AOC, renamed Kuzu Airlines Cargo in October of the same year, with operations starting in June.
July 2009Renamed ULS Airlines Cargo and brought into the ULS (Universal Logistics Systems) group, focusing on air cargo.
2010sOperating Airbus A310-300F freighters on routes in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, building close ties with logistics companies and forwarders and serving the time-critical and express market.
2023-2025Fleet adjustment: some A310 freighters were parked or retired and larger Airbus A330-300P2F freighters such as TC-GOL were added to raise mainline capacity.
2026Continues to operate as a full IATA member; public flight records show Istanbul-Hong Kong and other Asian cargo routes, with A330 freighters on mainline service.

ULS capacity: dedicated freighter types

A330-300P2F mainline freighter

A new-generation passenger-to-freighter conversion with a maximum payload of about 61 t, suited to high-volume cargo on medium and long-haul mainlines such as Istanbul to Asia.

A310-300F medium freighter

A proven converted widebody freighter with a maximum payload of about 38 t, flexible on European and Middle Eastern routes and formerly the backbone of the ULS fleet.

Time-critical and express cargo

The business centres on time-sensitive cargo, cross-border e-commerce and express shipments, working closely with logistics companies on speed and reliability.

Istanbul hub

Based at Ataturk Airport on the Europe-Asia boundary, connecting the European, Middle Eastern and Asian markets.

ULS is a pure cargo carrier built around time-critical freight. For Chinese shippers the entry points are the Istanbul-Hong Kong route and transit through Istanbul: e-commerce parcels and time-critical cargo can move between Asia and Europe on that path, while oversized, heavy or high-volume shipments can be assessed against the mainline capacity of its A330 freighters.

ULS capacity is sold mainly through forwarders, and rates and space move with supply and demand, sharply so in peak season. Shippers needing Hong Kong or Istanbul space should request a rate and lock it three to five working days ahead; last-minute requests are hard to fill, particularly in e-commerce peaks. The forwarder's role is to track space early and keep that uncertainty at the quotation stage.

Aircraft type notes

The Airbus A310-300F is a long-proven type. Converted from the A310-300 passenger aircraft, it takes ULDs and pallets on the main deck, carries about 38 t and has the range to reach the main cities of Europe and the Middle East. ULS began taking A310-300F aircraft from 2009 and flew it as its main type across Europe, the Middle East and Asia; mature handling experience and low operating cost are its strengths.

The Airbus A330-300P2F is the newer mainline type: converted from the A330-300 widebody, it carries about 61 t, roughly 60 percent more than the A310, which suits a medium and long-haul mainline such as Istanbul-Hong Kong and takes more e-commerce parcels and time-critical cargo per flight. Around 2025 an A330-343P2F registered TC-GOL appeared in the fleet and public flight records show it on Asian routes, marking a move to larger and more efficient aircraft and giving capacity for growth in the Asian cargo market.

The fleet policy is narrow and specialized: each freighter is matched to the route where it fits. A310s fly flexible short and medium-haul work, A330s fly high-volume mainlines, and both types share Airbus maintenance and training, which keeps operating complexity down. In a regional cargo market this is a practical approach: small in scale, but every aircraft is fully used and utilization stays high.

ULS Airlines Cargo airports serving China

China: Hong Kong (HKG)

Public flight records show ULS operating the Istanbul-Hong Kong cargo route as flight TK6306, with a flight time of about 9 hours 46 minutes. Hong Kong is the practical access point for Chinese cargo into this network.

Mainland China

No published scheduled cargo flightsNone availablein mainland China. Mainland cargo connects through Hong Kong or through Istanbul and European hubs, and space is confirmed shipment by shipment through a forwarder.

Europe and the Middle East

From the Istanbul hub the network covers the main cargo points in Europe and the Middle East, moving time-critical and e-commerce freight within the region.

Destinations from China

ULS is a regional cargo carrier whose network radiates from Istanbul. For Chinese shippers the practical paths are:

  • Hong Kong, Chinathe Istanbul-Hong Kong route, about 9 hours 46 minutes, as the interface for Chinese cargo entering and leaving the ULS network
  • TurkeyIstanbul, with the Ataturk Airport base, connecting to the Turkish domestic and neighbouring cargo network
  • Europemain cargo points in the European market, with specific points depending on capacity allocation
  • Middle Eastmain cargo points in the Middle East, serving e-commerce and time-critical cargo

Practical notes:ULS points and frequencies change with contracts and capacity, and published information is limited. For cargo from China routed through Istanbul, we confirm the current flights and space first. The network does not cover China to the United States; for transpacific cargo use a mainline carrier such as Delta or United, which we can also arrange.

Advantages of ULS Airlines Cargo

Dedicated freighter capacity

An all-cargo fleet is not limited by a passenger cabin, so the aircraft is loaded as freight, build-up is flexible and time-critical and e-commerce shipments get freighter handling.

Istanbul hub

Positioned on the Europe-Asia boundary, Istanbul is a natural transshipment gateway to European and Middle Eastern markets.

Focus on time-critical cargo

The business focuses on time-sensitive cargo, e-commerce and express freight, and operations are built around speed, which suits cargo with firm delivery deadlines.

Logistics network links

Backed by the ULS group logistics network and close ties with forwarders and logistics companies, ground handling and connections run more smoothly.

Full IATA member

IATA membership and international safety certification mean established waybill, settlement and interline processes for cross-border shipments.

Fleet upgrade

A330-300P2F freighters are moving onto the mainlines, and payload per flight towards Hong Kong and other Asian points is expected to improve further.

ULS has no scheduled flights in mainland China and publishes few schedules, so for general cargo from China the main choices remain carriers with mature China networks, such as Turkish Airlines or Qatar Airways; ULS is better used as a supplementary option for time-critical transit traffic.

ULS capacity proves its value in peak season, especially during e-commerce promotions and holiday build-ups: when mainstream carriers are full, its Hong Kong-Istanbul route can take diverted cargo and find space for time-sensitive shipments. Planning and locking space early is essential with capacity of this kind; forwarders block space before the peak instead of chasing it at the last minute.

Note: the telephone and address details above come from the airline website and published company information. As an all-cargo carrier its commercial desk deals mainly with forwarders and logistics customers, so Chinese shippers get faster answers through a forwarder.

Why book through a freight forwarder

  • Capacity is verified before booking: ULS schedules change, so the forwarder confirms current space directly with the airline or its agent to avoid stale information.
  • Hong Kong gateway handling: mainland cargo connects through Hong Kong, and the forwarder knows the local air cargo, customs and cross-border procedures.
  • Time-critical routing design: for time-critical and e-commerce shipments the forwarder compares transit time and cost between nonstop and transit via Istanbul or Dubai.
  • Carrier comparison: established capacity such as Turkish Airlines is quoted alongside, so the customer gets the best option after comparison.
  • Booking informationCommodity, piece count, per-piece and total weight and dimensions, origin and destination airports, target date, and whether the cargo is over-dimensional or dangerous goods.

The Istanbul path for time-critical and e-commerce freight

Time-sensitive cargo

ULS is built around time-critical freight, from flight planning to ground connections. For Chinese e-commerce sellers and traders this means cargo with firm arrival deadlines, such as goods for a fixed on-sale date, urgently needed parts or seasonal stock, can use the freighter path through the Istanbul hub as an alternative to standard belly capacity. Once the flight is confirmed, the forwarder can line up pickup and last-mile delivery so that air time and ground time are compressed together.

E-commerce and express

Cross-border e-commerce shipments are high in volume, light per piece and time-sensitive, and ULS works with logistics and express companies on exactly that profile. Loading a full freighter handles large parcel volumes in one build, cutting the number of splits and transfers; Istanbul, as a gateway between Europe and Asia, gives e-commerce cargo a stable transit point for Middle Eastern and European markets. For sellers covering Turkey and nearby markets, a freighter plus hub combination is worth assessing.

Hong Kong to Istanbul transit

Hong Kong is one of the most important air cargo hubs in the world and Istanbul is the transshipment gateway between Europe and Asia. The ULS Hong Kong route joins the two, so Chinese cargo can be trucked or flown to Hong Kong, carried to Istanbul on a ULS freighter and forwarded to its final point in Europe or the Middle East. For cargo that does not want the busy transit points of Dubai or Doha, this path is a different option and a fallback when peak season congestion hits.

Selling through forwarders

As a dedicated cargo carrier ULS sells mainly to forwarders and logistics companies, with rates, space and contracts moving through agents. That is both a barrier and a safeguard for Chinese shippers: space is only available through a forwarder with a working relationship, but the forwarder can check the rate, the schedule and the cargo conditions item by item and put ULS on the same quotation sheet as other carriers. A forwarder who knows the Istanbul hub is faster than calling the airline directly.

Questions about ULS Airlines Cargo and booking

Which airport in China does ULS serve?

Public records show the Istanbul-Hong Kong (HKG) cargo route. There are no published scheduled flights in mainland China, so mainland cargo connects through Hong Kong or a European hub.

What aircraft does ULS fly?

It is an all-cargo airline and every aircraft is a freighter: Airbus A310-300F with about 38 t payload and A330-300P2F with about 61 t. There are no passenger services.

Is it suitable for cargo from China to Turkey and Europe?

It needs assessment. For general cargo the main choices are carriers with mature China networks such as Turkish Airlines; ULS suits time-critical shipments, e-commerce parcels and routings through Istanbul, with space confirmed shipment by shipment through a forwarder.

Does the ULS network cover China to the United States?

Not directly. The network is concentrated in Europe, the Middle East and Asia and does not cross the Pacific; for China-US cargo use a mainline carrier such as Delta or United, and we can arrange the whole shipment.

Which cargo suits ULS?

Time-sensitive e-commerce parcels, urgent shipments and high-value light goods such as electronic components fit its profile; for general heavy cargo in large volumes, mainline rates from other carriers should be compared.

How are booking and tracking handled?

We confirm space with the airline or its agent as booking agent. After departure the air waybill number, under prefix 444, can be tracked on the airline website, and we also report status at loading, transit and arrival.

How does loading a ULS freighter differ from a passenger belly?

ULS operates freighters only. The A310-300F and A330-300P2F are designed as cargo aircraft, with holds that take pallets and ULDs and suit consolidated batches. Compared with a passenger belly, freighter limits on piece size and weight are wider, and the airline cargo department builds each pallet to the shipment, which suits concentrated loads of time-critical and high-value light cargo.

What steps are needed to connect mainland cargo through Hong Kong?

Mainland cargo is trucked or flown to Hong Kong airport for acceptance and then loaded on the ULS Hong Kong-Istanbul flight. Provide the commodity, piece count, weight and dimensions at booking; we handle pickup in the mainland, acceptance in Hong Kong and the transit connection, then send the waybill number after loading and report status at transit and arrival.
