Airline overview

Air Hong Kong is the only all-cargo airline in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, based at Hong Kong International Airport, and has long operated the DHL Express regional express cargo network in Asia.

Air Hong Kong was founded in 1988 and is the airline in Hong Kong's air cargo history dedicated to all-cargo operation; it is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the Cathay Pacific group. The company works closely with DHL Express over the long term and operates DHL's main express flights in Asia, using Hong Kong as the regional distribution hub to connect Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia and major mainland Chinese cities.

On 27 June 2025 Air Hong Kong retired its last A300-600F and moved fully into an all-Airbus A330F fleet. It now operates 14 A330 freighters, 10 converted A330-300P2F and 4 factory-built A330-200F, which makes it one of the largest A330-300P2F operators in the world. With the fleet change complete, a single aircraft platform reduces operating and maintenance complexity and raises frequency and on-time performance across the Asian express network.

For mainland Chinese shippers the value of Air Hong Kong lies in its Hong Kong to Asia express network within the DHL system. Express parcels, e-commerce cargo and time-sensitive spare parts exported from the mainland are consolidated in Hong Kong by DHL road transport and border transfer, then distributed by freighter to Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore, Bangkok and other major Asian cities, which makes the airline an important air corridor for time-sensitive exports from southern China.

The operating model differs from a passenger airline: it flies no passenger services and concentrates on the cargo market with freighters. Freighter times are built around the DHL Asia distribution flow, so cargo clears a fast turnaround at Hong Kong airport and is loaded for the Asian stations, cutting transit waiting time. Because the model is built around a single customer system, capacity supply is highly stable, which suits express and fulfilment cargo with strict departure punctuality.

Hong Kong International Airport, one of the busiest air cargo hubs in the world, gives Air Hong Kong well-developed terminals, customs supervision and ground connections. Its freighters cycle between Hong Kong, mainland stations and Northeast and Southeast Asian points, forming a regional cargo loop with Hong Kong at the axis. Exports from the Pearl River Delta reach the airport by road within hours, and with the airline's high frequency cargo can be consolidated the same day and distributed to major Asian cities the next.

On the commodity side, electronics, consumer electronic components, cross-border e-commerce parcels and urgent repair parts from southern China are highly time-sensitive. Through the DHL door-to-airport connection and high frequency, such cargo is distributed quickly at Hong Kong and reaches major cities in Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia within one to two days, meeting the replenishment and e-commerce fulfilment requirements of regional supply chains.

China contact

Air Hong Kong operates from Hong Kong International Airport as its only base and mainly serves DHL Express express cargo in Asia; it has no direct sales office in mainland China open to general shippers. Mainland shippers who need to book should contact its local agent in China, or ask Goodhope Logistics (China) Limited (Goodhope Freight) to make the connection.

As a forwarding desk, Goodhope Freight connects mainland shippers to Air Hong Kong express freighter capacity from Hong Kong to Asian cities and coordinates DHL road transport and border transfer for the whole movement from mainland pickup to loading in Hong Kong. For time-sensitive export parcels and e-commerce cargo, we match the freighter rotations available after Hong Kong distribution to the destination.

Air Hong Kong is based only in Hong Kong, and its mainland stations Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu mainly serve freighter rotations inside the DHL system; there is no mainland sales counter open to general shippers. Shippers who need current schedules and capacity should route enquiries through Goodhope Freight so that space is not mismatched through incomplete information. On the strength of long-standing relationships we can press for priority space when the peak season is tight.

For shippers who need factory cargo moved directly to Hong Kong for loading, Goodhope Freight arranges consolidation trucks in the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta and coordinates export declaration and border transfer. The shipper supplies basic cargo data and consignee details; airport handover in Hong Kong, freighter booking and onward distribution at destination are coordinated by us, which cuts the cost of dealing with several parties.

Depending on the urgency and destination of the cargo, we can also combine Air Hong Kong regional rotations with Cathay Cargo intercontinental services, covering both regional express and long-haul distribution.

Aircraft types

The Air Hong Kong fleet is now entirely A330F, in two configurations: converted A330-300P2F and factory-built A330-200F. Both are twin-engine widebody freighters suited to regional short and medium haul in Asia, with range and payload matched to the distances from Hong Kong to Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia and mainland China.

Aircraft typeNumberNotes
A330-300P2F10 aircraftConverted from the Airbus A330-300 passenger aircraft into a full freighter, with the main deck taking ULDs and the aircraft flying the Asian regional express routes. Air Hong Kong is one of the largest operators of the type worldwide.
A330-200F4 aircraftFactory-built A330-200F freighter with longer range, suited to Hong Kong to South Asia and the more distant Asian stations.
A300-600FAll retiredThe last aircraft was retired on 27 June 2025 and fully replaced by the A330F fleet.
A330P2F (new addition)1 on leaseAnnounced in June 2026 as a long-term lease, due to join in the fourth quarter, mainly to fly mainland China and regional Asian rotations for Cathay Cargo.

The main deck of these A330 freighters takes standard air ULDs and the lower hold carries loose cargo and containers together, so the aircraft handle both bulk lots and express consignments. A single platform standardises crew, maintenance and ground handling, which is how Air Hong Kong sustains high frequency and strong departure punctuality from its Hong Kong hub.

The A330-300P2F is converted from the passenger aircraft and keeps the widebody's large cross-section, with the main deck taking several rows of ULDs; payload and range suit short and medium haul from Hong Kong to Northeast and Southeast Asia. As one of the earliest operators of the type, Air Hong Kong has solid experience with converted freighters. The A330-200F is factory-built with a longer-range configuration and covers Hong Kong to South Asia and the more distant Asian stations.

The additional A330P2F announced in June 2026 is due to join the fleet in the fourth quarter, mainly flying mainland China and regional Asian rotations for Cathay Cargo to add regional capacity. The arrangement reflects coordination of freighter resources inside the Cathay group: Air Hong Kong concentrates on regional express and Cathay Cargo on intercontinental long haul, with the new aircraft deployed flexibly between them.

Airports served in China and schedules

Air Hong Kong is based in Hong Kong and its freighter network covers some mainland Chinese cities and the main Asian express points. The mainland stations are mainly Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu, serving DHL express flows from the mainland to Hong Kong for onward distribution.

RegionDestinationsNotes
Mainland ChinaBeijing, Shanghai, ChengduThe mainland stations Air Hong Kong freighters serve, connecting DHL road transport and border points and consolidating export parcels to Hong Kong for distribution.
Northeast AsiaTokyo Narita, Osaka, Nagoya, Seoul Incheon, TaipeiThe main express points from Hong Kong to Northeast Asia, with dense frequency.
Southeast AsiaSingapore, Bangkok, Manila, Cebu, Ho Chi Minh CityThe main distribution cities from Hong Kong to Southeast Asia.

Taking the spring and summer 2026 timetable as an example, scheduled freighter rotations operate from Hong Kong to Seoul Incheon. Frequency at each station changes with the season, and no published fixed schedule can be relied on as a long-term commitment; actual schedules vary by season and the carrier's confirmation on the day of booking applies. Mainland shippers move cargo to Hong Kong airport by DHL road network or by trucks we arrange, then load and depart.

In terms of mainland industrial geography, the Beijing station handles electronics and high-value manufacturing cargo from north China, Shanghai handles cross-border e-commerce and electronics from the Yangtze River Delta, and Chengdu handles exports from the inland southwest. Cargo from all three flies to Hong Kong on Air Hong Kong freighters and is then distributed to the Asian express points. Exports from the Pearl River Delta itself go by short road haul to Hong Kong airport, with no mainland airport loading.

Toward Northeast Asia, Tokyo Narita, Osaka, Nagoya and Seoul Incheon are Air Hong Kong's high-frequency stations and suit electronic components and express parcels exported from China to Japan and Korea. Toward Southeast Asia, Singapore, Bangkok, Manila, Cebu and Ho Chi Minh City cover the main ASEAN manufacturing and consumer markets. Taipei is a regional point for cross-strait express flows.

International air freight services from China

Air Hong Kong cargo service is concentrated within Asia; cargo originating in mainland China connects through Hong Kong to the following countries and regions.

DirectionMain destination countries and regions
JapanTokyo Narita, Osaka, Nagoya
South KoreaSeoul Incheon
Taiwan regionTaipei
Southeast AsiaSingapore, Bangkok in Thailand, Manila and Cebu in the Philippines, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam
Mainland ChinaBeijing, Shanghai, Chengdu

The network uses Hong Kong as its single hub and reaches the main Northeast and Southeast Asian economies, which suits time-sensitive exports from mainland China to the region. For cargo needing Europe or North America, it connects at Hong Kong with long-haul capacity such as Cathay Cargo to complete the ocean crossing.

Cargo from China to Japan and Korea on Air Hong Kong rotations to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Seoul can reach next-day delivery after mainland consolidation, which suits electronic components, precision spares and high-value parcels. Cargo from China to Southeast Asia is distributed through Singapore, Bangkok, Manila and Ho Chi Minh City to ASEAN manufacturing and consumer cities. Express transfers between mainland cities can also be handled on the Hong Kong freighter rotations.

For long-haul cargo headed to Europe, North America or Oceania, Air Hong Kong connects at its Hong Kong hub with the Cathay Cargo long-haul freighter network: mainland cargo is consolidated in Hong Kong by regional freighter or DHL road transport and then moves on intercontinental aircraft, giving a two-layer regional and intercontinental structure.

In trade-flow terms, exports from China to Japan and Korea are mostly high-value electronic components and precision spares with tight time requirements, while exports to Southeast Asia are mostly consumer electronic components, light industrial goods and e-commerce parcels in larger, more frequent lots. Air Hong Kong regional rotations carry both flows and give mainland shippers a single Hong Kong distribution entry point for multi-destination shipments.

Freight advantages

High frequency within Asia

A single A330F platform supports high-frequency rotations from Hong Kong to Northeast and Southeast Asia, matching the transit requirements of express parcels and e-commerce cargo.

Connection into the DHL system

Long service to DHL Express, with mainland export parcels moved to Hong Kong by DHL road transport and border points and distributed onward by Air Hong Kong freighters.

One aircraft type

An all-A330F fleet reduces crew and maintenance complexity and improves departure punctuality and the predictability of capacity.

As Hong Kong's only all-cargo airline, Air Hong Kong concentrates on the regional express market. It does not compete with passenger belly capacity but secures stable space for the DHL system with dedicated freighters. For time-sensitive exports from southern China, such as electronic spares, cross-border e-commerce fulfilment and urgent repair parts, its express rotations from Hong Kong to major Asian cities offer a clear advantage in transit time.

A single platform also brings maintenance and scheduling efficiency: every freighter is an A330, so crew qualifications, spares holdings and ground equipment are common across routes, and capacity can be redeployed more flexibly when a flight is changed or an aircraft goes into maintenance, which reduces the risk of delay to mainland exports from a single aircraft fault.

Because Air Hong Kong is positioned purely as an all-cargo operator, its cargo capacity does not swing with the passenger market, and the rotations it flies for the DHL system are stable and predictable. For cross-border e-commerce sellers and manufacturers that ship continuously, that certainty helps with production and stock planning and avoids the risk of finding no space at short notice in the peak season.

Booking through an agent in China

The usual booking path for a mainland shipper is this: the shipper prepares pieces, weight and dimensions, commodity and consignee details and submits a booking request through Goodhope Freight, which replies with rates and departure times based on Air Hong Kong freighter frequency and capacity availability from Hong Kong to Asian cities.

At handover, mainland export parcels are consolidated to Hong Kong airport through the DHL road network or trucks we arrange, then weighed, screened and loaded. Cargo at mainland stations such as Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu can be collected locally and flown to Hong Kong on Air Hong Kong freighters for transit. After arrival at the Asian destination, DHL or the local ground agent handles collection and delivery.

When booking, the shipper provides pieces, weight, volume, commodity and consignee details; parcels containing batteries, magnetic material or other sensitive attributes need the supporting compliance documents. On receipt of the request we confirm capacity and departure time against Air Hong Kong freighter frequency from Hong Kong to each Asian city, then complete the booking and issue the waybill. After handover we can provide status tracking and exception alerts.

For cargo exported through the DHL system, the shipper can also order directly through DHL. For mainland shippers who prefer a forwarder to handle capacity and ground connections, Goodhope Freight acts as the agency desk, combining Hong Kong to Asia freighter capacity with mainland collection trucks into one continuous arrangement from factory pickup in the mainland to loading in Hong Kong.

Other specialist services

Sustainable aviation fuel. Air Hong Kong takes part in the sustainable aviation fuel agreement between the Cathay group and DHL, uplifting SAF on the Hong Kong to Seoul Incheon, Tokyo Narita and Singapore routes, which gives exporters with low-carbon disclosure requirements an option.

Dedicated handling for express and e-commerce. Within the DHL system, Air Hong Kong freighter capacity serves time-sensitive express and e-commerce fulfilment cargo first, providing a product that departs to timetable.

Regional transit connections. Air Hong Kong connects at its Hong Kong hub with the Cathay Cargo long-haul network, so mainland cargo can be consolidated in Hong Kong on regional freighters and then distributed to Europe, North America and other distant markets on long-haul aircraft.

Cross-border e-commerce distribution. Through the DHL system and high frequency, Air Hong Kong gives southern China cross-border e-commerce exporters a fast distribution channel from Hong Kong to the main Asian consumer cities and supports concentrated fulfilment shipping during major sales events.

High-value spare parts. For urgent spares in electronics manufacturing and precision equipment, Air Hong Kong dedicated freighters offer priority loading and fast transit, keeping failed equipment repaired and replaced on time and regional supply chains running.

The diagram is centred on Hong Kong and shows the loop and spoke express network linking mainland China with the main cities of Northeast and Southeast Asia. Lines are indicative and not actual flight paths; stations and frequency follow the carrier's published timetable.

Structurally the network has Hong Kong as its single axis: freighters cycle between Hong Kong and the Asian cities to form a distribution loop, while spokes run from Hong Kong to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and other mainland stations to collect consolidated cargo. With a single hub, cargo needs one transit in Hong Kong to reach the whole network, which avoids the transit time lost when flying through several hubs.
