FAQ

Regarding questions about applying for the General Certificate of Origin (CO) for products imported from China

Do all products imported from China require a Certificate of Origin (CO)?
Answer: Not always. It is usually required only when the local customs authorities request it during the clearance process upon the goods' arrival.

When should the CO be processed for containerized international sea freight?
Answer: Typically after the vessel departs and the ocean bill of lading is confirmed. It is recommended to send the original CO together with the original ocean bill of lading to the consignee.

When should the CO be processed for international air freight shipments?
Answer: After the air cargo enters the airport customs supervision warehouse, export customs declaration is completed, and flight information along with the air waybill are available—usually one day before the flight departure. Due to tight air freight schedules, it is advisable to allow one day for CO processing. Once issued, the original CO certificate should be immediately handed to the airline to accompany the goods to the destination airport

When should the CO be processed for international express shipments (e.g., DHL, FedEx, UPS)?
Answer: After the goods are delivered to the respective courier company’s warehouse and the corresponding tracking number and courier waybill are confirmed, the CO should be processed before departure. It will then be shipped together with the goods to the destination. This timing is similar to that for international air freight CO processing.
