Home / Logistics Knowledge / FCL Customs Clearance for Importers
Clearing a full container at destination follows the same logic as any import, but a hold affects a whole box. Here is the document set and the process.
Customs value is usually the transaction price plus certain additions. Duty is applied by HS code, and destination VAT or GST is charged on the value plus duty. Correct classification and value keep the assessment accurate.
An examination opens the container at the terminal. It adds time and may incur handling or storage fees, so accurate paperwork reduces the chance of a hold.
From hours to a few days when documents are complete; longer if the container is examined or information is missing.
At minimum the bill of lading, commercial invoice, and packing list; add certificate of origin and licences where required by the product or country.
For most countries a licensed broker or your forwarder's broker is the practical norm to file the entry and pay duties.
It risks penalties, delays, and seizure. Declare the correct transaction value to avoid serious compliance problems.
