The Australian Customs Act, Tariff Regulations and Customs Regulations are the main basis for customs management. The Act was revised in July 1999 and May 2005. According to the Customs Act, the Australian government imposes tariffs and service taxes on most imported goods.

[Import Tariffs]

The import tariff rate depends on many factors, such as the type of goods and the place of origin. Most goods are subject to a tax rate between 0% and 5%. Certain goods such as alcoholic beverages, tobacco, textiles, clothing and footwear are subject to higher tariff rates.
