Luxembourg is landlocked and one of Europe's wealthier markets, and its freight costs reflect that. There is no Luxembourg port in the maritime sense — cargo is discharged at Rotterdam and trucked into the Grand Duchy — but the through rate we publish covers the whole journey.

Only two origins are quoted in our records: Huizhou at USD 100 per CBM and Jiangmen at USD 130, both with a 2 CBM minimum. For anything under 2 CBM, express or air services are usually more sensible.

How to read these rates: figures are indicative reference levels for port-to-port LCL ocean freight, updated for October 2026. They exclude origin haulage, warehouse and customs charges, destination port charges and any surcharges. Space, cut-off times and rates must be re-confirmed at booking.

2 CBM minimum on both lanes. Luxembourg consolidations are built on a 2 CBM floor, so smaller shipments are billed at 2 CBM. Below that threshold, air freight or express courier is almost always cheaper.

Huizhou is the value origin. USD 30 per CBM cheaper than Jiangmen on the same 38-day transit, with three cut-off options per week rather than one.

Rotterdam transhipment. Both lanes feed through Rotterdam, which is the standard gateway for Benelux and the Rhineland. Add a few days for the road leg and clearance.

Why Luxembourg costs more than its neighbours

The Grand Duchy is small, landlocked and wealthy, and its import volumes are thin. Rates on both the LCL and express sides are consistently higher than for Germany, Belgium or the Netherlands — a pattern our own records confirm, for example on EMS where Luxembourg shipments carry no volume discount while most other European destinations attract roughly 50 per cent off the published tariff.

Consolidating to reach the minimum

Because the floor is 2 CBM, the cleanest saving is to combine shipments. Two 1 CBM consignments from the same supplier in the same week become one 2 CBM bill of lading at the 2 CBM rate — no wasted minimum and only one set of origin charges.
