China to Iran — freight rate and market updates (dated log, 2026)
Compiled 23 September 2026 from our booking-desk logs and from market quotations shared by carrier and consolidator desks. Ocean and rail rates are per container; air, express and DDP rates are per kilogram. Figures are indicative, are in USD unless stated otherwise, and must be re-confirmed when you book.
We logged 1 full-container quotations to Iran during 2026. The most frequently quoted gateways were Bandar Abbas. The lowest container level recorded was USD 8,850 (2026-05-29) and the highest USD 8,850 (2026-05-29), which shows how wide the spread was between carriers and sailing windows.
For air cargo we recorded 2 service updates to Iran in 2026, mostly on W5 (W5).
On the China–Europe Railway Express we logged 1 quotations to Iran in 2026, priced per 40ft container station to station.

Airline promotions and capacity notices
Chronological record of the airline and consolidator promotion notices for China–Iran air cargo that our quotation desk logged during 2026. Each line records what was being advertised on the day, not a confirmed rate; space, routings and prices move within hours, so treat every entry as market colour and ask us to re-check the flight before you commit cargo.

Air freight — W5 rate sheet to Tehran (IKA), October 2026
Mahan Air (W5) is the only carrier lifting cargo from China to Tehran Imam Khomeini (IKA). The sheet below was issued on 15 October 2026 and runs until further notice. Rates are per chargeable kilogram — CNY/kg at the mainland gateways and HKD/kg for cargo handed over in Hong Kong, China. The sheet publishes departure days but no ETA, so the arrival date is confirmed flight by flight when we book.
| Departure airport | Airline | Destination | +45 kg | +100 kg | +300 kg | +500 kg | +1,000 kg | Departure schedule (ETD) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beijing | Mahan Air (W5) | Tehran (IKA) | 60.00 | 50.00 | 49.00 | 47.50 | 46.50 | D2 / D3 / D4 / D7 — overnight rotation on D2 and D7, evening rotation on D3 |
| Shenzhen | Mahan Air (W5) | Tehran (IKA) | 61.00 | 50.00 | 48.50 | 47.50 | 46.50 | D4 / D6, 03:45–07:45 — currently suspended |
| Guangzhou | Mahan Air (W5) | Tehran (IKA) | 62.00 | 53.00 | 51.50 | 50.50 | 49.50 | Double rotation daily; carrier lists 15 flights a week |
| Shanghai | Mahan Air (W5) | Tehran (IKA) | 70.00 | 52.50 | 51.50 | 50.50 | 49.50 | Daily; departure time shifts by day of week |
| Hong Kong, China — cargo handed over in Hong Kong | Mahan Air (W5) | Tehran (IKA) | 134.60 | 104.10 | 95.60 | 89.60 | 82.60 | Co-loaded with the Hong Kong rotations (HKD) |
| Hong Kong, China — cargo handed over in Guangzhou or Shenzhen | Mahan Air (W5) | Tehran (IKA) | 144.60 | 109.10 | 99.60 | 92.60 | 85.60 | Co-loaded with the Hong Kong rotations (HKD) |
Day codes run D1 to D7, where D1 is Monday and D7 is Sunday. The sheet carries no ETA column — the departure day is published, the arrival time is not, and both are re-confirmed against the booked rotation.
How to read the W5 rates
The column headings are weight breaks, not separate flights. Air cargo is billed per chargeable kilogram — the greater of the actual gross weight and the volumetric weight (cubic metres × 167) — and the unit rate steps down as the shipment gets heavier. The break applies to the whole consignment, so 320 kg is billed at the +300 kg rate on every kilo rather than at the +45 kg rate. On this sheet the +1,000 kg break sits about 20 percent below the entry rate at Guangzhou and about 23 percent below at Beijing, which is why consolidating several small consignments under one house air waybill is the quickest way to cut the per-kilo cost.
Gateway choice matters at the bottom of the ladder too. At the +45 kg entry break Beijing is the cheapest at CNY 60.00/kg, ahead of Shenzhen at 61.00, Guangzhou at 62.00 and Shanghai at 70.00. By the +1,000 kg break Beijing and Shenzhen converge on CNY 46.50/kg and Guangzhou and Shanghai on 49.50/kg, so the spread between the cheapest and the dearest mainland gateway narrows from CNY 10 a kilo to CNY 3. The two Hong Kong, China lines start at HKD 134.60/kg for cargo handed over in Hong Kong and HKD 144.60/kg for cargo handed over in Guangzhou or Shenzhen, which makes them an option for South China shippers who cannot reach the Guangzhou rotation in time rather than a price play.
Frequency is the other half of the sheet. Guangzhou is the only gateway publishing a double daily rotation, which the carrier lists as 15 flights a week; Beijing flies four days a week; Shanghai flies daily but moves the departure time from day to day; and the Shenzhen rotation is suspended, so the CNY 61.00/kg headline printed against Shenzhen cannot currently be used.
Origin surcharges, as published on the sheet
The kilogram rates are airline freight only. Each gateway adds its own origin charges, and they are not the same across the airports on the sheet:
| Gateway | Origin surcharges |
|---|---|
| Guangzhou | Pre-carriage +CNY 0.30/kg (minimum CNY 250); documentation, bill of lading and declaration CNY 450, plus CNY 300 where a third-party shipper's licence is used; palletised cargo adds a forklift charge of CNY 60 for the first lift and CNY 30 for each further lift. |
| Shenzhen | Pre-carriage +CNY 0.50/kg (minimum CNY 150); documentation, bill of lading and declaration CNY 450, plus CNY 300 where a third-party shipper's licence is used. |
| Beijing | Handling +CNY 0.30/kg, with a forklift charge of CNY 0.20/kg on palletised cargo; documentation, bill of lading and declaration CNY 450, plus CNY 300 where a third-party shipper's licence is used. |
| Shanghai | Documentation, bill of lading and declaration CNY 450, plus CNY 300 where a third-party shipper's licence is used. No pre-carriage or handling charge is published for this gateway. |
| Hong Kong, China | Transfer handling HKD 1,350; plus HKD 500 for cargo containing batteries; plus HKD 350 where a declaration is required. |
Two rules apply across every gateway. Cargo below 100 kg carries a small-cargo handling fee of 100 in the local currency of the handover point — CNY on the mainland, HKD in Hong Kong, China. And the kilogram rates cover general cargo only: powders, liquids, loose batteries or anything that needs a test report before it can enter the warehouse adds CNY 2.50/kg at Guangzhou, while temperature-controlled cargo and pharmaceutical products, including finished medicines and active ingredients, are quoted case by case. Dunnage and skid boards are billed at cost.
October 2026 capacity notice — one carrier, four gateways
In October 2026 the only air service from China to IKA is W5, and only four airports offer a departure: Guangzhou, Beijing, Hong Kong, China and Shanghai. That is half the flights and half the capacity of the previous month. Every W5 rotation from China to IKA is now a passenger aircraft, so cargo travels in the belly and has to be queued for space rather than simply booked onto a freighter. W5 loads passenger baggage and its own nominated cargo first, and only after those two are on board does general cargo go up. On a single-carrier route that means cargo can roll to the next rotation, so build a buffer into your cut-off and treat the departure day on the sheet as an intention rather than a guarantee.

Frequently asked questions — shipping from China
The answers below are drawn from the same quotation log and carrier rate sheets as the tables above. Figures are indicative and are reconfirmed at booking.
What is the 40ft / 40HQ rate from China to Bandar Abbas?
The 40ft and 40HQ quotations we logged to Bandar Abbas in February to June 2026 ranged from USD 8,850 per container across 1 quotation. A 40ft high cube carries roughly twice the volume of a 20GP for well under twice the freight, so once your cargo passes about 28 CBM the 40HQ is normally the cheaper unit per cubic metre.
What does the China–Europe rail service to Tehran cost?
Block-train quotations to Tehran in February to June 2026 ranged from USD 8,750 per container. Rail sits between sea and air: typically 18 to 25 days door-to-door to central Europe at a fraction of the air rate. The figure covers the rail leg and, on the services we quote, the customs declaration; pick-up in China and delivery beyond the rail terminal are charged separately.
How long does shipping from China to Iran take?
Typical port-to-port sailing time from South China is 20 to 32 days; add three to seven days if the cargo loads in North China. Direct services beat transhipment routings by one to two weeks, and schedule reliability, blank sailings and port congestion all move the date. We confirm the actual ETD and ETA against your booking rather than quoting a standard transit time.
What is included in the freight rates shown on this page?
Ocean and rail figures are the port-to-port (or terminal-to-terminal) freight only. They exclude origin handling, export customs, THC and CFS, documentation, destination THC, import duty and final delivery, unless the row names a door-to-door or DDP service. Air figures are airport-to-airport per chargeable kilo and exclude pick-up and delivery. Every figure is indicative until it is confirmed against a specific vessel, flight or train and a cargo ready date.
Can I ship less than a container load (LCL) from China to Iran?
Yes. LCL groupage is charged per revenue tonne (1 CBM or 1,000 kg, with volume weight taken if it is greater) plus fixed documentation and CFS charges, so it is usually the better option below roughly 15 CBM. Above that a 20GP starts to win on cost per cubic metre. Give us the volume, weight and cargo readiness and we will price both side by side for Iran.
Do I have to pay import duty and VAT in Iran?
Import duty, VAT/GST and any destination port charges are assessed by the customs authority in Iran and are payable by the importer of record, not included in the freight rates on this page. Where we quote a DDP service the duty and tax are absorbed into the per-kilo or per-container price and shown separately on the invoice. We can arrange a landed-cost estimate before you ship if you tell us the HS code, the declared value and the delivery address.
Which carrier and which departure airports can air cargo from China to Iran use in October 2026?
Only Mahan Air (W5), and only from four gateways: Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, China. Shenzhen is still printed on the W5 sheet at CNY 61.00/kg from 45 kg up, but its D4/D6 rotation is currently suspended, so nothing lifts there. That is roughly half the flights and half the capacity of September 2026, which is why space to Tehran (IKA) is tight.
What do the +45 kg, +100 kg and +1,000 kg columns on the W5 sheet mean?
They are weight breaks, not flights. Air cargo is charged per chargeable kilogram — the greater of gross weight and volumetric weight (cubic metres × 167) — and the unit rate falls as the shipment gets heavier. The break applies to the whole consignment, so 320 kg is billed at the +300 kg rate on every kilo rather than at the +45 kg rate. Consolidating smaller shipments under one house air waybill is the fastest way to reach a lower break.
Which departure airport is cheapest for air cargo from China to Tehran (IKA)?
At the +45 kg entry break Beijing is cheapest at CNY 60.00/kg, followed by Shenzhen at 61.00, Guangzhou at 62.00 and Shanghai at 70.00. At the +1,000 kg break Beijing and Shenzhen converge on CNY 46.50/kg and Guangzhou and Shanghai on 49.50/kg, so the gap between the cheapest and the dearest mainland gateway shrinks from CNY 10 to CNY 3 a kilo. The Hong Kong, China lines start at HKD 134.60/kg for handover in Hong Kong and HKD 144.60/kg for handover in Guangzhou or Shenzhen.
Do the W5 kilogram rates include the origin charges?
No — the kilogram rate is airline freight only. Each mainland gateway adds a pre-carriage or handling charge of CNY 0.30/kg to 0.50/kg with a minimum, plus CNY 450 for documentation, bill of lading and customs declaration, rising by CNY 300 where a third-party shipper's licence is used. Hong Kong, China adds HKD 1,350 for transfer handling and a further HKD 500 for cargo containing batteries. Shipments under 100 kg carry a small-cargo handling fee of 100 in the local currency, and powder, liquid, loose-battery or other test-report cargo adds CNY 2.50/kg at Guangzhou.
Why does air cargo from China to Tehran (IKA) have to wait for space?
Because every W5 flight from China to IKA is now a passenger aircraft. The belly is sold as space that has to be allocated rather than as a committed freighter uplift, and W5 loads passenger baggage and its own nominated cargo before general cargo. With one carrier and four gateways across the whole route, cargo can sit a rotation or two in a busy week. Give us a firm cargo-ready date so we can book into the queue early, and treat the departure day printed on the sheet as an intention rather than a guarantee.
Is there a fixed transit time from China to IKA on W5?
The sheet publishes departure days but no ETA. Read the pattern as Guangzhou double daily, Beijing four days a week, Shanghai daily and Shenzhen suspended — and the arrival date moves with each rotation. Because cargo is allocated into belly space instead of being carried on a dedicated freighter, transit time is confirmed rotation by rotation at the time of booking, and we re-check it before your cargo is trucked to the airport.
