US Customs Import Policy Update 2025

US Customs Import Policy Update: Requirements for Shipping from China by Sea, Air, and Courier Services

Important Notice: US Tariff Policy Adjustment

Effective February 4, 2025, at 12:01 AM, the US government has issued an executive order imposing an additional 10% tariff on all goods originating from China (including Hong Kong SAR).

Key Changes:

  • 10% Additional Tariff: All goods originating from China (including Hong Kong SAR) will be subject to an additional 10% tariff.
  • Elimination of De Minimis Exemption: The previous policy exempting goods with a declared value of USD 800 or less from tariffs is no longer in effect. All shipments from China (including Hong Kong SAR) to the US, regardless of declared value, will be subject to tariffs. This means that on top of any existing tariff rates (which can range from 10-60% or more depending on the product), an additional 10% will be added.

Shipping Information Requirements:

Due to these changes in US tariff policy, it is crucial that customers accurately complete all shipping information when sending goods to the US. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Product name
  • Value
  • Quantity
  • Destination country's HS Code (10-digit)
  • Weight

Responsibility for Accuracy:

Customers are solely responsible for the truthfulness, accuracy, and completeness of the declared information. Any customs delays, detentions, confiscations, additional tax payments, or penalties resulting from incorrect valuations by US Customs will be the sole responsibility of the sender.

Applicability and Updates:

These requirements apply to all international shipping channels we use. We will closely monitor the latest developments from the US government and Customs and will promptly notify customers of any policy updates or adjustments.

Recommendations:

  • For shipments to the US with a declared value exceeding USD 250, we recommend providing the recipient's/importer's tax identification number.
  • Include the Manufacturer Identification Code (MID Code) on the invoice to avoid customs clearance delays or other issues.
