Thailand Customs Regulations on the Import of Masks

What Thai customs required in 2020 for mask imports from China: clearance documents, tariff code, tax rates and the personal-use quantity limit.

Overview

Thai customs applied specific regulations to imported masks. If you shipped masks to Thailand from China by international express or air freight, you needed the correct clearance documents, and you needed to know the tariff treatment, the applicable taxes and the quantity limits before shipping.

Required documents

• Air waybill or bill of lading
• Commercial invoice
• Thai FDA approval document (duty exemption possible for genuine personal-use quantities)

Tariff and tax treatment

Mask tariff code in Thailand: 6307.90.90 (medical, dust, carbon-fiber and valved masks alike). The tariff rate was 10 percent plus a 7 percent VAT. Formal declaration was generally required.

Personal-use shipments

Where masks were imported for personal use — not for sale — and the shipment was covered by Thai FDA documentation, the import limit was 180 pieces per person. Consignments above that quantity were treated as commercial imports and required the full Thai FDA import approval obtained by the importer before arrival.
