What is Air China Cargo CA 999?

Air China Cargo is the cargo arm of Air China, the flag carrier headquartered in Beijing. Its two-letter airline designator is CA, and its air waybill prefix is 999 — every Air China Cargo waybill starts with the digits 999. The airline operates a dense international freighter and bellyhold network, and it is generally counted as one of the three major Chinese carriers for international air cargo, alongside China Southern and China Eastern.

Most Air China Cargo uplift departs from Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK). As export demand from other Chinese provinces has grown, the carrier has also built international capacity at Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN), Shenzhen Bao'an (SZX) and Chengdu Tianfu (TFU), so cargo no longer has to be trucked to Beijing to fly on CA.

North America: three gateways plus a trucking network

In the Americas, Air China Cargo flies direct from Beijing to Los Angeles (LAX) and New York JFK daily, and to Vancouver (YVR) weekly. Direct freighter frequencies are modest, but that is not a limitation: CA operates an extensive interline trucking network on both sides of the border. Cargo flown into JFK can be trucked under customs bond to Chicago ORD, Miami MIA or almost any other North American airport, so the airline can quote a through rate to secondary points even without a nonstop flight.

Australia and New Zealand

The third route group links Beijing and Shenzhen with Australasia: Sydney SYD, Melbourne MEL, Brisbane BNE and Auckland AKL. Between the two Chinese gateways there is normally at least one departure to Australia every day, which makes CA a practical option for time-sensitive retail and industrial shipments.

Southeast Asia and South Asia

How to book space on Air China Cargo

There are two ways to book:

How CA air freight pricing works

Air China Cargo revises its tariff roughly once a week in the low season, and once or twice a day during the peak. The airline signs fixed-rate agreements with its agents by the month or by the year, and large global forwarders typically block a full year of space on the trunk routes. Only a small share of capacity is sold retail through the airline's own platform. The live rate therefore moves with the market — sometimes up, sometimes down — which is why a forwarder quote is normally fresher than any published list price.
