LCL sea freight from China to Zambia (Lusaka & Ndola) — 2026 reference rates

Zambia is landlocked and served via Durban in South Africa, then by road up the North-South Corridor through Zimbabwe or Botswana to Lusaka and the Copperbelt city of Ndola. It is a long, expensive routing — USD 220 to USD 291 per CBM.
Tianjin offers the best combination: USD 236 per CBM to Lusaka and USD 220 to Ndola, on a 39–40 day transit with a 2 CBM minimum. Xiamen is competitive at USD 235 with a 45-day transit and a lower 1 CBM floor.
How to read these rates: figures are indicative reference levels for port-to-port LCL ocean freight, updated for October 2026. They exclude origin haulage, warehouse and customs charges, destination port charges and any surcharges. Space, cut-off times and rates must be re-confirmed at booking.

Tianjin and Xiamen are the realistic options. Tianjin is cheaper to Ndola at USD 220 with the shorter transit; Xiamen is slightly cheaper to Lusaka at USD 235 and carries a lower 1 CBM minimum rather than Tianjin's 2 CBM.
Ningbo is the worst lane. USD 291 per CBM — the highest on the page — with a 50–60 day transit, roughly three weeks slower than Tianjin. Avoid it unless the cargo must load in Zhejiang.
Minimum volumes differ. Tianjin requires 2 CBM; the other origins accept 1 CBM. For small consignments that difference matters more than the headline rate.
The long road from Durban
Zambian cargo is discharged at Durban and then travels roughly 2,000 km north by road through Beitbridge and Harare or through Botswana. That overland leg is the dominant cost, not the ocean freight, which is why rates are USD 220 and above despite Zambian volumes being reasonable. It is also why the transit is quoted in the high thirties — the sea leg is only about three weeks of it.
Lusaka and the Copperbelt
Lusaka is the capital and main commercial centre; Ndola serves the Copperbelt mining region in the north. Mining-related cargo — machinery, spares, consumables — dominates the traffic, and much of it needs careful protection from dust on the road leg. For heavy or out-of-gauge mining equipment, tell us early, as the overland truck capacity is the constraining factor rather than vessel space.
