Requirements for Sending Samples to an Appraisal Institution for Cargo Transportation Hazard Identification
These professional dangerous goods appraisal institutions include:
- Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry (SRICI) Testing Center
- National Registration Center for Chemicals (NRCC)
- Dangerous Goods Management (China)
- Pony Testing International Group
Upon completion of the appraisal, a "Hazard Classification and Identification Report for Transport of Goods" will be issued.
For the international transport of chemicals or dangerous goods, carriers require an identification report from a certified Chinese appraisal body prior to booking. Factories are advised to review the institution's sample submission protocols in advance. The following section outlines the specific requirements for sample preparation and submission.
1. Requirements for Samples Submitted for Testing
- 1.1 Solids: 30–50 grams. For self-heating tests, a minimum of 2 kilograms is required (the testing process takes 3–5 working days).
- 1.2 Liquids: 50–70 milliliters. For viscous flammable samples, at least 150 milliliters are required.
- 1.3 Aerosols: At least 6 cans/units.
- 1.4 Labeling: The sample bag or bottle must be clearly labeled with the specific sample name.
- 1.5 Magnetic Products: A complete, fully packaged unit must be submitted for magnetic testing. (For example, testing for items like earphones, speakers, motors, or motorized toys requires at least one full master carton.)
- 1.6 Sample Retention: The center retains all submitted samples and does not return them. If you require the return of high-value or specialized samples (non-liquid, non-paste, and non-powder), please notify staff upon submission to confirm eligibility and complete a Sample Retrieval Liability Statement.
2. Requirements for Sample Naming
The sample name must be a specific, accurate chemical name or common trade name. Generic terms or internal codes—such as "additive," "pigment," "coating," "thinner," "auxiliary agent," or "catalyst"—are strictly prohibited. The specific model and/or application must be clearly indicated (e.g., "Pigment Yellow 139" or "Type 811 High-Temperature Anti-Corrosive Coating").
3. Supporting Documents
- 3.1 Provide a detailed Safety Data Sheet (SDS or MSDS) for the product whenever possible.
- 3.2 For instruments and equipment, provide the product instruction manual, along with a description of its working principles and internal structure.
Important Notices
- Validity: The transportation identification report is valid for the current calendar year only. As international dangerous goods regulations (e.g., IATA DGR, IMDG Code) are updated annually, classification results for the same sample may vary from year to year.
- Cancellation Fee: For officially commissioned tests where the report has not yet been issued, if the client cancels the application for personal reasons, a processing fee of RMB 300 per sample will be charged.
