Core Considerations for EMS Express
Billing Rules
- Billing weight standard: The billing weight is determined by the larger of the actual weight and the volumetric weight. The volumetric weight calculation formula is volume weight = length × width × height / 6000(unit: cm). For light and bulky goods (such as clothing, soft toys), the volumetric weight is usually higher than the actual weight, so it is recommended to compress the packaging volume as much as possible.
- Single piece weight limit: The maximum weight of a single EMS shipment to the UK is 30 kg. Shipments exceeding 30 kg need to be split into multiple packages for delivery, and each package must meet the independent packaging and labeling requirements.
Prohibited Items
- Electrical and electronic products are strictly not accepted, including but not limited to mobile phones, laptops, tablets, cameras, chargers, and batteries. Once such items are found in the shipment, they will be returned or disposed of by the postal department, and no compensation will be provided.
- Other prohibited items in accordance with international postal regulations, such as flammable and explosive materials (alcohol, gasoline), toxic substances, controlled knives, and counterfeit products, are also not accepted. Shippers must ensure that the goods comply with UK import regulations and EMS acceptance standards.
Compensation Standards
- Unregistered online shipments: In case of loss during transportation, the compensation standard is 40 RMB per kg of the shipment, with a maximum compensation of 1000 RMB per shipment. This standard does not include the freight paid, and the freight will not be refunded separately.
- Online registered shipments: For shipments that have completed online registration (including filling in the waybill information and declaring the goods truthfully), the compensation standard shall be implemented in accordance with the official regulations of the postal department, which usually covers the actual value of the goods (subject to the provided purchase certificate) and the paid freight, with specific compensation limits subject to the latest postal notice.
- Compensation application conditions: Shippers need to provide the original waybill, proof of shipment (such as delivery receipt), and relevant certificates of the goods (such as purchase invoices) when applying for compensation. The application must be submitted within 30 days from the date of shipment; applications submitted beyond the time limit will not be accepted.
