Adult novelties are a mainstream export category and China manufactures the majority of the world's supply. Factory clusters in Guangdong, Hebei, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Anhui produce devices, silicone and TPE figures, lingerie and fertility test strips, and most of it ships to the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the Nordics — with the USA the single largest destination.
What makes this category different from ordinary cargo is not legality but handling. Items containing lithium batteries need a transport declaration, items containing liquid lubricant need a marine transport assessment, and the customs description and commodity code have to be chosen with care. Get those right at booking and the shipment moves like any other; get them wrong and it stops at the terminal.
This page sets out the channels we use, what each one costs, and how the paperwork is handled. It is a freight guide, not a retail listing — the product categories are described in logistics terms throughout.
How to read these rates: figures are indicative reference levels for port-to-port LCL ocean freight, updated for October 2026. They exclude origin haulage, warehouse and customs charges, destination port charges and any surcharges. Space, cut-off times and rates must be re-confirmed at booking.

Battery-powered items. Motorised devices are treated as dangerous goods. Depending on the battery type and configuration they need an MSDS and, in many cases, a marine transport assessment report from a recognised testing body. Air shipments containing batteries are normally routed through Hong Kong, where the handling expertise and carrier choice are greatest.
Liquid content. Items packed with lubricant, and condoms shipped with lubricant, require a marine transport assessment report for sea freight. For air freight, liquid-containing consignments are best routed through Shanghai Pudong.
EMS will not accept batteries or liquids. If your product contains either, EMS is not an option — use express or air instead.
Rail. Block-train services to Europe, Russia and Central Asia can carry adult products, but the operator needs the actual commodity name, piece count, package dimensions, weight and export documentation before confirming. Ask before you assume the train is available for your product.
Can adult products be exported from China?
Yes. Chinese customs does not prohibit the export of adult products, provided the goods comply with export regulations. Factories that can issue export documentation can also claim the VAT rebate, which is worth confirming with your supplier before you settle the price.
Customs and declaration
Export is declared to Chinese customs and import is declared to US Customs and Border Protection by the consignee's broker. A common misconception is that personal-use shipments need not be declared — they do. Whether the goods are for resale, for personal use or sent as a gift, the shipment is declared. There is no personal-use exemption.
For commercial shipments we prepare the export declaration on your behalf where you hold export documentation, and the US side is handled by the consignee's customs broker, who settles duty and any applicable state and federal taxes. Read the commodity description carefully: adult products sit across several Harmonized Tariff Schedule headings depending on material and function, and the code you choose affects both duty and the chance of a hold. Regulatory points specific to the USA
Adult products are lawful to import into the United States, but three things catch sellers out. First, fertility and pregnancy test strips are regulated as medical devices and must meet FDA requirements, including labelling; they are not ordinary novelties. Second, items marketed with therapeutic claims can be reclassified as devices or drugs. Third, state-level rules differ, and a few jurisdictions restrict certain categories. None of this prevents shipment, but it does mean the description on the invoice should be accurate rather than optimistic.
How the freight is calculated
Sea freight rates are quoted per CBM and change weekly, sometimes monthly, with fuel and space. On the Shenzhen to Los Angeles / Long Beach lane the groupage rate sits at around USD 80 per CBM in our records. Full-container rates move with the equipment type (20GP, 40GP, 40HQ) and the sailing date.
Air freight to the USA should always be quoted at the time of shipping — the spread between seasons is large. For express and postal services, individual parcels in the low single-digit kilogram range typically cost somewhere between RMB 100 and RMB 300, and shipments above 21 kg are billed per kilogram: our records show DHL to the USA at roughly RMB 60 per kg, with comparable figures for FedEx to Canada, UPS to Australia, TNT to the UK and EMS to New Zealand. Booking through a consolidating forwarder rather than directly usually secures a discount on the published tariff.
